Security profile
When considering purchasing a hydrogen water bottle, it's not just performance and price that matter—safety is paramount.
Unfortunately, not all bottles on the market are able to deliver safe and efficient hydrogen water. In this article, we'll dive into common pitfalls that many people encounter when purchasing a hydrogen bottle, and how you can avoid them to ensure you get a product that's both safe and effective.
Common pitfalls
- Hazardous by-products: Some hydrogen water bottles can inadvertently generate harmful gases such as ozone and chloride during electrolysis. These gases can be harmful to breathe and can also affect the safety and taste of the drink.
- Low-quality materials: Bottles made from substandard materials can not only deteriorate quickly, they can also leach harmful chemicals into the water. Materials that are not food safe or that contain BPA are unfortunately not uncommon in cheaper models.
- Inadequate testing: Many manufacturers do not adequately test their products. This means that the bottles may fail to deliver the amount of hydrogen they claim to or they may have a short lifespan and quickly stop working properly.
- Weak construction: A bottle that leaks, has poor battery life, or whose electrolysis system quickly becomes ineffective is not only annoying, but can also be a safety hazard.
Safety profile at Nord Hydrogen
As mentioned in the intro, some bottles can create harmful ozone, fluoride and chloride. It is extremely important that you ensure that the hydrogen bottle has mechanisms implemented to prevent this.
Advanced PEM technology
- DuPont™ Nafion™ 117 membrane: The heart of the Nord Hydrogen Bottle is this proton exchange membrane (PEM). It is specially formulated to be highly selective, meaning it allows hydrogen ions to pass through while blocking oxygen, chlorine and other potentially harmful gases from mixing with the hydrogen in the water.
Protection against harmful byproducts
- No ozone production: Although electrolysis could theoretically lead to ozone production, this is extremely unlikely in the Nord Hydrogen Bottle. An important factor is that the voltage used is not high enough for ozone to form, further minimizing any risks. If ozone is produced (extremely unlikely) it would be produced in a separate chamber not in contact with the water. It had then been immediately removed through the bottle's ventilation system.
- Effective separation of oxygen and chlorine: Thanks to the efficient PEM membrane, oxygen and any chlorine are produced and collected at the positive electrode and safely eliminated without contaminating the water you drink.
Free from fluoride and other impurities
- No fluoride production: The bottle does not introduce fluoride into the water, a significant advantage compared to other products on the market. While the bottle does not remove fluoride already in the water, it ensures that no new harmful chemicals, including fluoride, are formed during use.
Why this is important
Using the Nord Hydrogen Bottle means you can enjoy all the benefits of hydrogen-enriched water, without worrying about harmful chemicals or gases. This makes it not only one of the safest hydrogen water bottles on the market, but also one of the most efficient and durable.
Testing and construction
Nord Hydrogen is aware of the common problems of inadequate testing and weak construction that plague many hydrogen bottles on the market. To ensure our customers receive the highest quality and most reliable product, we have implemented strict testing procedures and designed our bottles with durability in mind.
Strict Testing Procedures
- Quality control: Each Nord Hydrogen bottle undergoes extensive testing both during and after the manufacturing process. We use advanced techniques to verify the bottle's ability to consistently produce hydrogen at declared levels.
- H2 Analytics certification: To further strengthen our quality guarantee, we partner with H2 Analytics for independent testing of our bottles. This ensures that our bottles deliver at least 5000 ppb of hydrogen, which is effective for therapeutic use.
Robust construction
- High-quality materials: Nord Hydrogen Bottles are made of Makrolon polycarbonate, which is not only durable but also resistant to chemical and physical stress. This material reduces the risk of leakage and damage during the life of the bottle.
- Advanced electrode technology: Our electrodes are designed to be effective and long lasting. They are made from materials that do not corrode or wear out quickly, ensuring that the electrolysis system remains efficient over time.
- Reliable battery technology: We use high-quality batteries that guarantee longer life and higher performance. This means users can enjoy a constant production of hydrogen water without worrying about frequent recharges or battery failure.
CE / RoHS certificate
CE certification
What it means: The CE mark is a certification used within the European Economic Area (EEA) and indicates that a product meets EU requirements for safety, health and environmental protection. It is a confirmation that the product has undergone assessment before market launch and meets the relevant EU legislation.
- Why it's important: The fact that the Nord Hydrogen Bottle is CE marked means that consumers can be sure that the product is safe to use and that it complies with all applicable European directives and regulations. This provides extra security for users knowing that they are using a product that is approved according to strict EU standards.
RoHS certification
- What it means: RoHS stands for "Restriction of Hazardous Substances" and is also an EU standard that restricts the use of specific hazardous materials found in electrical and electronic products. These substances include lead, mercury and cadmium, all of which can be harmful to humans and the environment.
- Why it matters: The RoHS certification ensures that the Nord Hydrogen Bottle does not contain these hazardous substances, which not only protects users but also contributes to a more sustainable environment. Users can be safe in the knowledge that they are not contributing to the spread of these harmful substances when they choose our product.
IHSA certificate
Nord Hydrogen Bottle is approved according to IHSA (International Hydrogen Standards Association). IHSA certification means that the bottle has undergone rigorous testing to ensure that it meets the highest standards in terms of safety and performance. It’s not only about the product delivering the promised amount of molecular hydrogen (5000 PPB), but also about doing so without producing harmful byproducts such as ozone or fluoride — something that unfortunately occurs in many other products on the market.
To break it down simply:
- Safety first: No harmful chemicals or gases are produced during use.
- Quality assurance: The therapeutic hydrogen level we promote is accurate and stable over time.
- Highest standards: IHSA approval means that the bottle meets all strict requirements for both consumer safety and effectiveness.
This means you can rest assured that our bottle not only helps you get all the benefits of molecular hydrogen but also does so in a safe way.
Heavy metals testing
During our IHSA certification, the Nord bottle underwent a comprehensive inspection for heavy metals. In the test, the bottle received the highest rating, with no harmful heavy metals present in the water.
Closing words
When we developed NordHydrogen, we consulted with several of the world's leading figures in molecular hydrogen. Including Tywon Hubbard from H2HUBB. The goal of the bottle was, among other things, to have an unbeatable safety profile.
